1.  What kinds of social networking websites do you like to use?

👉We’re living in a fast-paced world, so I think youngsters, including me, use social networking websites very often. I am addicted to Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube is the most popular social networking site in Vietnam. Besides that, I also use Twitter, a platform where I can openly express my opinion and fire my thoughts on everything.

2. Are you a social person?

👉 I’m sort of like that. I can be very social if I'm around the right group of people. Some groups of people who just vibe with whatever you talk about, and keep me from wasting my energy making small talk. That’s the reason why I’m not deep in multiple conversations on social networks.

👉 Very much so! I feel that I thrive on (survive) social interactions. I like a small amount of time to myself each day, but I feel most charged when I spend time with others. I prefer to spend my free time with friends or family rather than being in my room reading a book, for instance.

3. Is it easy to find real friends on a social networking website?

👉Well, to be honest, I don’t think true friends can be found on the internet. As social networking websites take over the world, we tend to communicate less in person and more on different social platforms. We should be very careful about who we are talking to, not to mention social media imposters

4. Do you use social networking sites?
👉Yes, social networking websites have become part of my everyday life. My favorite one is Facebook, one of the most popular websites in the world, with millions of users in different countries.

5. What kind of people do you like to be friends with on those websites?
👉All kinds! I am friends with a wide range of people from my school years, family members, and friends I’ve recently met. Actually, I’m even friends with people who I’ve never even met before.

6. Do you like to use Facebook?
👉Yes, I love it! This social networking website allows me to keep in contact with my friends and find people I’ve lost touch with.

7. How did you first find out about Facebook?
👉As far as I remember, one of my friends sent me an email inviting me to join Facebook. I signed up and I’ve been using it ever since.

8. Will you use these sites more in the future?
👉Well, I’m trying to refrain myself from these sites, as I find myself quite addicted to entertaining content on Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, etc, and squandering too much time on them. So I’d say I’m about to make a change and make less use of such online networking platforms.

9. Which social media websites do you use?
👉 Well, a lot. I am active on many different platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. I mainly use these sites to keep in touch with others and stay updated on what is going on in the world.

10. How much time do you spend on social media sites?
👉 I don’t think I can tell exactly but I have to say, I use them quite a lot. Of course, this depends on how many tasks I have to finish that day. But I mean whenever I am free from work or study, I would definitely go online and surf Facebook or YouTube.

11. What kind of information about yourself have you put on social media?
👉 Mostly photos of me and my friends. I think there is nothing to do with privacy if I post those pictures online. They’re beautiful memories and I want to use social media sites as a place to store and share those moments with others.

12. Is there anything you don’t like about social media?
👉 I would say it is really time-consuming. I know social media is supposed to be fun only, but the fact is I am wasting my precious time using such sites. And if I cannot manage my time well, my study and work may be badly affected too.

A former Facebook executive has said social media is doing great harm to society around the world. The executive is a man called Chamath Palihapitiya. He joined Facebook in 2007 and became a vice president. He was responsible for increasing the number of users Facebook had. Mr Palihapitiya said he feels very guilty about getting more people to use social networks. He said the networks are destroying society because they are changing people's behavior. Twenty years ago, people talked to each other face to face. Today, people message each other and do not talk. People also really care about what other people think of them. They post photos and wait to see how many people like the photo. They get very sad if people do not like the photo.

Mr Palihapitiya said people should take a long break from social media so they can experience real life. He wants people to value each other instead of valuing online "hearts, likes, and thumbs-up". Palihapitiya also points out how fake news is affecting how we see the world. It is becoming easier for large websites to spread lies. It is also becoming easier to hurt other people online. Anyone can hide behind a fake user name and post lies about other people. Palihapitiya said this was a global problem. He is worried about social media so much that he has banned his children from using it. However, he did state that Facebook was a good company. He said: "Of course, it's not all bad. Facebook overwhelmingly does good in the world."
